Geektasm Alert: Free Superman Poster

Dateline Metropolis: As part of the state of Illinois' "Discover Offbeat Illinois" campaign, the IL Dept. of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is offering a free poster (several choices) to anyone who requests one. (The offer might be for US residents only; I didn't read the fine print). The poster touting the city of Metropolis' Favorite Son is pictured above (I've already ordered mine, natch); there's also one for the Tallest Man in the World, in Alton; Berwyn's Car-Kabob; Rockford's Jane the T-Rex (somebody order this one for me! Thanks, Kate and Queen!); and more.

To see all the posters, click here. To order your own, click here.

Super-special thanks to sister-in-law extraordinaire Alex "Scoop" Gillen for the tip. Here's another tip: See the world in new ways by visiting Phosgraphia, her ultra-cool photo-blog!

I love that photo she got of the vacant store-front. Those are some of my favorite colors! I've always wanted my own store-front. I waffle between making an art studio and making a church. This is all in my imagination, of course.

Glad you liked Phosographia, dj! I'm still partial to Pepe the King Prawn, myself.

Howabout a "Church of Art"?

Ooo! A "Church of Art"! That's a great question to pose to a known iconoclast! Now, first question: do you mean a "Church of Art" as in a church building? Or do you mean "church" in the ecclesial sense of community, or body (in every sense of the word)?

Since you mentioned a store-front, my initial thought was a physical space: like a gallery, except with pews facing all the art :-)

Ah, so that we worship the art! See, since it's such a nice sunny storefront in Phosographia's shot, I'd want to put the works of art in the pews with the people, and people and art together would worship alongside each other. What would we worship? Well, wow, it would have to be that tremendous force that we usually take for granted, that we call "life". Can you imagine? All of existence would be an enchantment of joy. Want to get the cover of your comic book into one of the pews? :o)
